Well, Since Christmas is coming to a close I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday with their families!!! Big lunches, dinners and loads of presents. We just got the new LG RH7624W DVD Player with a built-in 250GB Hard Drive. So far it is an awesome unit. You can record live TV onto the Hard Drive and then edit all of the adverts out of it, then burn it to DVD that you can then play on any normal DVD player…
Awesome, No ??? What you can also do, it start taping a movie, then when you want to go to make some coffee, you can simply hit the "pause" button, go make coffee, and then when you come back, just hit the "play" button, and the ‘live TV’ will carry on from where you left off. You won’t miss a minute !!!!!!
Region Hack: (List of other DVD Hacks – click here or here) This DVD player, like most others, are limited to only being able to play DVDs from a certain region. So, this unit is set to region 2, which is South Africa. This means that it is not able to play a DVD from another region. (USA, Hong Kong, etc)
- Region 1 – The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada
- Region 2 – Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
- Region 3 – Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
- Region 4 – Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
- Region 5 – Russia (okay, former Russia), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia
- Region 6 – China
UNLESS: You have a DVD Region Hack… Which will then allow you to play DVDs from ANY region !!!! So I found one… and I want to make it known to the world… and anyone else who has one of these units. Step 1: With the unit in DVD (Disc) mode Step 2: With drawer open Step 3: Key in "0" seven times… Step 4: The display will (should) read "Congrats" Step 5: Press enter That is it… Sorted… 100%… You can now play DVDs from any region !!!!!
UPDATE: My Unit started doing exactly what other people have also had problems with… When you turn the unit on, it says "Please Wait…" for quite some time before it eventually switches on. I think that this is a manufacturing problem, maybe there was not enough testing done on the units before they were sent out into the world !!! ??? !!! Anyway, I finally had enough of that, and returned the unit to Marko, where they swopped it out for a new one. It has been working ever since. BUT: If this one starts doing the same as the last one… then I am going to swop the LG out for a different model !!!! Will keep you posted.

Firmware from LG RSA is not up to date, rather download from LG International for firmware upgrade.

Same problems. Can someone please email or give me the website where I
can find the firmware update for my RH-7624W. It is a nice product but all I can suggest for timer problems when loosing power is to get yourself a cheap UPS which can help. Just needs to modified.

I have also had the same problem (butler-parker lip sync thing) and have
schlepped the unit to LG twice to get the firmware upgraded which appears to fix it for a while then it’s back. I’m really cheesed that when I phone them tomorrow I know they’re just going to ask me to bring it in again and i’m tired of that now. Is there any way to claim this is a design flaw and at leat get a different model? Damn I hate it when things aren’t what they seem! Any advice would be appreciated.

Where do I start? The first one I had worked for 1 week. Then got it
replaced. The next one worked with the following issues:
1. I had to run the zone crack to watch even South African purchased DVDs
(who knows where these DVDs originate from…)
2. I recorded some 7 hours music, then used the editing functions to get rid
of the unwanted bits… this messed up the voice/video syncronization giving you what Parker-San calls the “Butler Parker” effect). I don’t know about you but I will rather NOT watch something at all rather than watching something where the video and audio are out of sync. What makes this worse is that it happened on my most beautifull music videos. Is there any video editing software that can pull back into sync again… maybe ULEAD Tools? Other: please specify.
3. I CANNOT FORWARD/REWIND when playing back .AVI files – DUH!!! One can only Pause/Play. So if you could not hear what one of the characters said in a story, you are buggered… you’ll have to either (a) play that through your notebook/computer coz there you can rewind/forward as you like in say Media Player or (b) restart the playback of the whole .AVI. This is especially a problem when this happens close to the end of the story – Imagine watching a movie and missing the punchline. LG – what the hell where you thinking?
4. I don’t have anywhere near 60 titles, but noticed that it started taking
long to boot as the others described. The HDD was close to full at the time. I then deleted some titles and the pblm went away.
5. I e-mailed LG to obtain the BIOS/FIRMWARE upgrade in a hope to get past the pblm where one cannot forward/rewind in AVI files, since I use them alot. LG e-mailed me 2 things back:
* The manual on how to burn the BIOS/FIRMWARE upgrade to CD-R using Nero on your computer (screen-shot for screen-shot).
* The file that contains the upgrade
One is supposed to boot up with this CD-R after writing the stuff to the
CD-R, but it came up saying something about it not being recognized.
Back to square one…
6. When looking at the playback list of AVI files, it does not show long
filenames. It still conforms to the old DOS 8.3 standard, which is really
backward. This implies that if you do not start your AVI files’ titles with the
Series number and Episode number, it is going to play back the episodes in the wrong sequence (DDUUUHHHH!!!!).
E.g. Start the episode names with S for series and E for episode like this or
else you’ll get wrong playback sequence:
S1E01 – SmallVille.AVI
S1E02 – SmallVille.AVI

Re 1: I have no idea… Maybe it was a “grey import”? Where did you buy it
from?
Re 3: I hit the “display” button, then type in the “time” that I want to jump
to. It is not ideal, but it works really well! You can do the same if you are
watching a DVD.
Re 4: I am sure that it is a problem where the unit wants to scan the whole
hard drive before booting – this sounds like it is a common error ?!?!?
Re 5: Maybe you could email me those files that LG mailed you? You can email me at “andrew@’domain’.co.za” I will check it out!
Re 6: I had EXACTLY the same problem as this! The solution? Was to use Nero Burning Rom CORRECTLY and under the “ISO” tab, under the “File” section (when you are burning the DVD / CD), ensure that you select “Max of 31 chars (Level 2)” instead of “Max of 11 (8 + 3) Level 1″ … This should then work! Test on PC after writing the CD / DVD!

Hi. Did someone mention a firmware upgrade? How would I go about getting and installing this? Also, I had a problem on my RH 7624W – when using timeshift, the video and audio went out of sync during the middle of the program, giving what I call the “Butler Parker” effect. Just last night, I dumped the last of my “keepers” onto DVD, cleared the HDD and formatted it (also restored factory settings – each of these operations took about 10 seconds – clearly not a low level format). I’ll find out in due course whether this has sorted the problem.
Has anyone had similar experiences or have any advice?
I’ve also had normal retail DVD’s freeze when I try to rewind to watch a
scene again. If this happens, nothing works – you can’t even turn off the power. The only solution I have found is to disconnect the power source, reconnect it and start from scratch. Any similar experiences or advice?

Well I’ve had my recorder for about 6 months now and I’ve had no problems…I would like some extra features though:
- Ability to remember my recording schedule when the power fails for less than 10 minutes
- Ability to name titles that I’ve scheduled for recording (pain in the ass to have to rename them after the fact…especially when you schedule to record about 5-10 titles a week)
Other than that it works great…I like have about 15 days worth of non-stop music, music videos and several movies (a bit of a pain that I have to first rip them..burn to RW and then dubb them – oh yeah – fast dubbing from standard dvd titles would be nice too)

I’ve had my LG RH7624W since last October. Bought from Hi Fi Corporation,
Woodmead. Recently recordings on the HDD have had the sound go out of
synchronisation, midway through the program. I have returned the unit to LG and they ‘Updated the firmware’. After a couple of weeks it has happened again.
At first because I had not been watching the transmission while the M/C was recording I wasn’t sure if tthere was a problem with the original transmission or if it was the recording. In one case, because I wanted to record 2 channels at the same time I recorded one channel to VHS tape. This I copied to the HDD so that I could edit out the adverts. When I played back the edited program, the sound went out of sync. I checked the VHS tape and that was OK.
So I believe that the problem lies with the LG M/C
Having scoured the net, it appears that this M/C suffers from various
problems caused by HDD fragmentation when there are more than 60 or so
recordings on the drive.

I had a similar problem with my LGModel : RH7624W. I had the problem of
“Please Wait”, then “LG Recorder” it restarts all over again and shows “Hello”. Everyt time it gets to LG Recorder, it makes a *click* sound and restarts again.
I took it in and LG gave me a new LG BUT after 6 months I had the same
problem!!!!!!
But I think I know why and how to solve it. When you have more than 60
recording titles the machine goes funny as above.
So what you do is unplug machine for 10 mins and then try starting it. It
usually starts only once. ( If not let it keep trying until it does sometimes
takes a few attempts) Then you must delete the Title recordings until you have less than 60 pref around 40. At this stage the machine works ok until you turn it off. If you turn it of without deleting the title recordings then the machine wont turn back on and you have to pull the plug for 10 mins.
After deleting the recordings the machine will turn on again as normal. I
think there is a bug in the software for more than 60 titles. The manual does state that scenes cannot be combined if there are more than 62 titles. I think this is the reason the machine gets confused when there are more than 60 odd titles.
After doing this my second machine is fine!! I will see when I have over 60
titles again if it does it again, but I am convinced that this is the problem
and the easy solution.
I dont thik it matters how many music files or avi movie files are loaded I
think it is just the no of titles created in the index from recording that has
the problem with 60 plus!!

did not turn on. So I left it in this sequence of trying to turn in on while I
went to the movies. When I got home 3 hours later it had finally turned ON.
I found I had 67 Title recordings and deleted until I had 45 and
whala……. The unit now works again as before.
So it is definitly a problem with the number of titles. But you might have to
wait a while efore the unit will turn on when in this state!!!!!!!!!
Moral of the story keep the titles below 60!!!!

HI I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE HDD IN MY DVD PLAYER (LG RH7624W)AND I NEED TO REPLACE IT, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT FORMAT THE HDD NEEDS TO BE FORMATTED IN COZ ITS JUST A NORMAL IDE HDD AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS MORE MONEY THAN A NEW ONE TO FIX IT, IT CANT POSSIBLY BE THAT HARD, OR CAN IT??????
